A cute robot dancer, created by Papa’s Truck Team, entered with tumbles, then with the music, it transformed into a beautiful flower, or a lovely beetle, marching on or rolling over, at Student Activity Center of West Campus at the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC). This audio-visual feast took place at the scene of the 16th USTC RoboGame and was just one clip of the wonderful RoboGame. On October 16, 27 qualified teams of undergraduates from USTC matched with their alien-performing themed and shelving-book themed robots.

JIANG Yi, the Deputy Party Secretary of USTC, gave his opening remarks. Prof. TANG Hao, Assistant Dean of School of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Hefei University of Technology, Prof. ZHAO Jiwen, Assistant Dean of College of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Anhui University, Prof. YANG Jie, Prof. FENG Zhihua, and Associate Professor DONG Erbao from the Department of Precision Machinery and Precision Instrumentation at the School of Engineering Science of USTC, were invited to be professional judges of this competition.
The first part of game, themed as alien show, started at 9 a.m. Every team demonstrated their robots within 10 minutes. For example, Robot Seed from Seed Team, walked, rolled, and tumbled quickly and neatly on the stage, with symmetrically eight-foot design. Another team, called Descendant of the Sun, presented a real Plants vs Zombies, with plant robots, zombies robots and ping-pong balls. Robots were required to shelve a book to the correct place after scanning the RFID in 9 minutes in the afternoon. Robot by Just This Team, finished the work almost silently, because its creators wanted to keep the library a quiet place even with robot librarian working in it. The Generalized Motorcycle Team placed the book accurately in only six minutes.




Papa’s Truck Team won the champion in the morning game, Seed Team, Descendant of the Sun Team, No Prize No Name Change Team, Freshly Team and Why Not Love Mountain Team also received prizes. In the book shelving contest, Generalized Motorcycle Team took the first, and Big Fish Team, Library Volunteering Terminator Team, Technicians at Nanqi Team, Firefly Team, Just This Team, also got rewards. HE Qingbo and LV Wei, were rewarded as best coach respectively for the morning and afternoon game.
The game was sponsored by the Ofiice of Academic Affairs, Youth League Committee, Students Affair Department and Party Publicity Department, organized by, the School of Engineering, Engineering Experiment Teaching Center and USTC Robot Club. Leaders from these departments were present at the opening ceremony. And the game attracted 600 audiences at the scene and got attention from the mass media.
