On Aug.8th, the opening ceremony of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) 7th Training Course for Potential Service and Employment in International Organizations was held in USTC west campus activity centre. This event was co-hosted by Bureau of International Co-operation CAS and USTC, organized by School of Public Affairs (PAS). Professor YE Xiangdong, deputy secretary of USTC;CAO Dianwen, deputy director of the Bureau of International Co-operation CAS; DONG Qi, researcher of the Bureau of International Co-operation CAS; ZHAO Gang, researcher of Chinese Academy of Science and Technology for Development; JIANG Jiajie, deputy director of the Office of International Cooperation USTC; Kathryn Barker, from Supreme Education Council, Qatar; all trainees and students and teacher delegates of USTC attended the ceremony. The host of the ceremony was LI Xiaogang, deputy dean of PAS.

Professor YE Xiangdong delivered a speech on behalf of USTC. He congratulated to the ceremony and greeted all the leaders, trainees and professors. Under the circumstance of increasing scale and influence of global S&T cooperation, there is high demand for competent talents in China. He said USTC will actively integrate quality education resources and improve training methods for diplomatic talents, aiming at making this program as important as the Huangpu Military Academy to Chinese scientists who are interested in pursuing a career goal at an international organization, as well as cultivating high level, high quality, high vision diplomatic talents for CAS. He hoped this program will achieve a good result as expected with the endeavor of every participant. He wished every trainee a pleasant study in USTC and a fruitful result, thus to become the mainstay in international S&T organizations soon.

Deputy director CAO Dianwen welcomed the trainees who were selected through a very intense competition on behalf of the Bureau of International Co-operation CAS. He pointed out the S&T innovation in internationalization strategic plan had become a global consensus. It is very important to specialize the voice of China on the global stage due to our growing comprehensive strength. He emphasized that CAS is the main support for China’s participation in international organizations. He hoped trainees cherish this study opportunity, learn theoretical and practical knowledge in order to become the core in international organizations, spread the Chinese voice and tell Chinese stories. Therefore, we will upgrade our image and increase our voice on the global stage. He appreciated PAS for the good preparation and appreciated for each professor’s effort. He highly praised the achievements of past six training programs and wished a success to the 7th.
ZHAO Lianfeng, a trainee from Institute of Geology and Geophysics, CAS, spoke as the trainee representative. He thanked USTC and Bureau of International Co-operation CAS for offering this precious opportunity. As well, he thanked PAS supporting staff for the organization. He promised every trainee will value this training program and make their best to bring this study to the future career.
Researcher ZHAO Gang, as the lecturers representative, said it is his honor to be a part of the teaching team. The idea of this training course complied with the current S&T developing trend, which contributes to our way to S&T leading country. He hoped trainees can fully communicate with each other and with lecturers during the next days, to build prolong friendship and share working experience.
The Training Course for Potential Service and Employment in International Organizations has run successfully for six years in USTC. This time it has advanced teaching facilities and provides more practice exercises. It is a two-week closed program. Not only in-class courses are offered, but also outdoor activities will be in the program to help trainees get overall development. This training course intends to cultivate diplomatic talents who are good at operation, management, English and leadership etc.
